COLONEL AMOS TURNER (bp. 1671–1739), son of John Turner and Mary Brewster
MARY HYLAND (1667–1729), daughter of Thomas Hyland and Elizabeth Stockbridge
Amos Turner, the son of John, was baptized on 4 June 1671 in Scituate. [1] Colonel Amos Turner died on 13 April 1739, age 68, and was buried in the Men of Kent cemetery in Scituate. [1][2] He married Mary Hyland on 6 April 1695 in Scituate. [1]
Mary Hyland, the daughter of Thomas, was born on 15 May 1667 in Scituate. [3] She was baptized on 21 June 1668 in Scituate. [3] She died on 5 November 1729, age 61, and was buried in the Men of Kent cemetery. [1][2]
Children of Amos Turner and Mary Hyland: All of their births were recorded in Scituate and they were all (except the first Mary) baptized on 10 July 1709 in Scituate. [1]
i. Amos Turner was born on 16 November 1696. He married Elizabeth Stockbridge on 29 January 1721 in Scituate. [1] Elizabeth married second Shadrack Keen.
In May 1752 Shadrack Keen, yeoman of Bridgewater, and his wife Elizabeth sued Ezekiel Turner, gentleman of Hanover, for three years of maintenance promised by Ezekiel and his late brother Seth when she was their sister-in-law, the wife of Amos Turner, Jr. [4]
ii. Jane Turner was born on 4 May 1697. She was buried in the Cobb's Hill cemetery in Barnstable. [2] She married Solomon Otis. [2]
iii. Anne Turner was born on 7 April 1699. She died on 5 January 1783. [5] She married Deacon Joseph Stockbridge. [5] Joseph, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Turner) Stockbridge, was born on 1 October 1698 in Pembroke and died on 8 June 1783 in Pembroke. [5] Anne and Joseph are buried in the Hanover Center cemetery in Hanover. [2]
iv. Colonel Ezekiel Turner was born on 23 March 1700/1. He died on 10 August 1773 in Hanover. [5] He married first Bathsheba Stockbridge of Pembroke on 27 December 1727 in Pembroke. [1] Bathsheba, the sister of Ezekiel's sister Anne's husband, was born on 12 October 1706 in Pembroke. [5] She died on 14 July 1731 in Hanover. [5] He married second Ruth Randall on 17 June 1736 in Scituate. [1] Ezekiel and his wives were buried in the Hanover Center Cemetery. [2]
v. Mary Turner was born in June 1702. She probably died young.
vi. Mary Turner was born on 23 April 1704. She died on 19 August 1775. She married Captain James Turner
vii. Lieutenant Seth Turner was born on 28 November 1705. He died on 10 October 1734, age 38. [1] He was buried in the Men of Kent cemetery. [2] He married Mehitable Gould on 10 December 1730 in Scituate. [1]
viii. Lydia Turner was born on 26 May 1707. She may be the Lydia who married Joseph Silvester on 5 November 1728 in Scituate. [1]
